MyGuardian
A Pervasive Guardian for Elderly with Mild Cognitive Impairments
Description
MyGuardian is an AAL project that aims to facilitate safe and secure mobility of seniors with mild cognitive impairments thus enabling them to increase their mobility, self-confidence, and participation in the society.
At the same time, MyGuardian improves wellbeing and efficiency of voluntary caregivers (family and friends) by enabling them to stay calm and informed when the senior is out and about, and improves efficiency of professional caregivers by providing them with up-to-date information and by supporting co-ordination of their care efforts.
The proposed solution is composed of the following services:
- Easy-to-use and rich communication between the senior and the caregivers in order to reassure them in non-emergency situations: asynchronous messages and enrichment of explicit communication by tagging messages with contextual information on senior state
- Remote monitoring and assistance with minimally intrusive device carried by the seniors with mild cognitive impairment, and devices used by their caregivers enabling them to monitor senior physiological state and behaviour and to provide an appropriate, personalized intervention.
- Coordination between caregivers - as the seniors with mild cognitive impairments are generally supported by a group of caregivers, both voluntary caregivers (including family members, neighbors, friends) and professional caregivers, a key challenge of the MyGuardian project is, on one hand, to calm them down by providing relevant real-time information about the senior state, and, on the other hand, if the need arises, to improve awareness within the group of caregivers, and enable them smooth distribution and delegation of care tasks.
- The technologies that will be employed are: mobile technologies, assistance services, user-friendly interfaces, knowledge discovery and artificial intelligence module, positioning and localization systems, user profiling and technologies for remote assessment of senior's state.
MyGuardian will be evaluated with pilot trials by end-users in Spain, France and the Netherlands (30-50 seniors in each country with mild cognitive impairments and their caregivers). The project duration will be 3 years and its time-to-market will be 1-2 years.
MyGuardian will be dynamic, incremental, personalized service (for seniors with mild cognitive impairments, caregivers, care organizations and institutions) and will be offered as a Basic Service at a low fee, and Premium services (at a higher fee) with added value features.
Consortium members: HI-Iberia Ingenieria y Proyectos SL (SME) and CETIEX (end-user) (both from Spain), University of Geneva (University) and VigiSense (SME) (both from Switzerland), ConnectedCare (SME) and Careyn (end-user) (both from the Netherlands) and CNRS Ageing, Imaging, Modeling lab (end-user) (France).
