Welcome to the Institute of Information Service Science

Services represent the most growing sector of the economy in industrialized nations. Information Service science is arising from the rapid development of services across the industrial world and the need to analyze and study the organization, deployment, maintenance and operation of those related IT based and IT supported services. Information Service Science represents an interdisciplinary approach to the systematic innovation in service systems, integrating management, social, legal and engineering aspects. The Institute of Information Service Science is an inter-faculty research laboratory of the Centre Universitaire d'Informatique. It gathers staff from two Faculties: the "Geneva School of Economics and Management" and the "Geneva School of Social Sciences" of the University of Geneva.

Our mission is to engage with industry, public administration, and the public in order to lead and shape the international landscape of research in the domain of Information Service Science. As a team of 60 staff members, we are active in research, technology watch, creativity, and teaching.

We are currently participating in 30 research projects (EU/Cost/Swiss funding). Our major areas of research cover Ambient Assisted Living, pervasive computing, indoor positioning and indoor navigation, object localisation, mapping, GIS, mobile sensors analysis, security and privacy, risk and compliance, service level agreements, cloud computing, Internet of Things, service innovation, formal methods and design, systems evolution, business processes, quality and interoperability, autonomous and self-adaptive systems, collective intelligence, trust-based systems, data-intensive services, predictive analysis and virtual reality.

Application domains include transdisciplinary business services, e-Health, services for mobile users, travelling and mobility, gaming, data protection, intelligent documents, digital rights and policy management, e-government services and smart society, finance and banking services.

Our strong involvement in interdisciplinary think groups places us at the forefront of the technology watch in Information Service Science in Switzerland. We regularly contribute to creativity and innovation hands-on experiments targeted at industry.

We also run a full range of academic programs in Information Service Science (BSc, Msc, Executive MSc and PhD). Our international network includes many academic institutions, public administrations, creativity and innovation consultants, think tanks and services providers across Europe, Asia, North America. We are always open to new collaborations and activities.

Do not hesitate to keep in touch with us!
